<p>I think you have to start tapping on the negatives because you have to acknowledge where you are and what you&#8217;re feeling. You&#8217;re not tapping in more negative&#8230;phew. Yet, if you start tapping on the total positive opposite, i.e. I&#8217;m confident and happy. You, your mind and body go, yeah right&#8230;***** ***.  Yes, I know this is all contrary to the popular self-help literature. Yet, you&#8217;ve seen it all play out in your life. Do affirmations work for you? Does just &#8216;think&#8217; positive work for you? I doubt it.</p>
<p>If you are ignoring what is actually going on, i.e. the negative stuff. What are you afraid or nervous of?  You&#8217;re not nervous or afraid all the time, so when are you afraid or nervous?  Since you&#8217;re not doing that pattern of behaviour all the time. You will have triggers for feeling nervous and afraid.</p>
<p>I&#8217;d take each as a separate entity.</p>
<p>Answer this simple question &#8211; I afraid of or because&#8230;. I&#8217;m anxious of or because&#8230;.</p>
<p>List your answers. Each answer becomes a separate round.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I&#8217;m afraid of &#8230;.<br />
Even though I&#8217;m anxious of &#8230;</span></strong></p>
<p>Take an emotional score before you tap. Then do several rounds, then retake your emotional score.</p>
<p>Then if you still have some emotion left.</p>
<p>Start,</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I still have some fear&#8230;<br />
Even though I still have some anxiety&#8230;<br />
Even though I have this remaining fear&#8230;</span></strong></p>
<p>Do several more rounds. The important point on all the tapping is to remain on the same &#8216;subject&#8217; or issue.</p>
<p>Then start tapping in the positive that you want. Any if, buts and maybes. You have new rounds to tap on.</p>
<p>Remember, this isn&#8217;t a character flaw, you&#8217;re not broken! Your negative feelings and emotions, do serve some positive purpose, even if we don&#8217;t know what it is right now.</p>
<div>As every my biggest advice is tap on anything and everything. You never know which one will be your Champagne moment.</div>

<p>Many people say I don&#8217;t know what to tap. What should I tap on? This in itself can be a tapping phrase.</p>
<p><em><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I don&#8217;t know what to tap on. I deeply and completely love, forgive and accept myself.</span></strong></em></p>
<p>If you do a few rounds on this. Something will come up for you to tap on. If you don&#8217;t want to tap on what comes up that is your choice.</p>
<p>Many of us, don&#8217;t know what to tap on because you, the tapper are afraid to use EFT to tap on what you really should do. This itself can be a phrase or 3.</p>
<p><em><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I&#8217;m afraid what I might discover if I let this go. I complete love and forgive myself.</span></strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I have been hiding behind this issue all of my life, I choose to release myself from these bonds now and experience a fuller life.</span></strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I want to keep my problem, that I’ve had for so long because it serves me a purpose that I’m not aware of.  I give myself permission to let go of this now. I deeply and complexly accept and forgive myself.</span></strong></em></p>
<p>Then sometimes it seems we go round and round in circles. Tapping on the same image, event or emotion.  This is where our Fws come into play.<br />
I&#8217;m sure you learnt these at school as part of your English lessons.You may know them for Rudyard Kipling and in his &#8220;Just So Stories&#8221; –  <em>&#8220;Five W&#8217;s&#8221; (and one H)</em></p>
<p><em>I keep six honest serving-men<br />
(They taught me all I knew);</em><br />
<em>Their names are What and Why and When</em><br />
<em>And How and Where and Who.</em></p>
<p>If you interrogate your emotion, feeling or event that you&#8217;re tapping on. More specifics will become available to you.  You can then incorporate these specifics into your rounds. As you do so, you&#8217;ll begin to notice the changes in your tapping.</p>
<p>What are you feeling?<br />
Where are you/do you feel it?<br />
Why do you feel it then and only then?<br />
Who is there with you?<br />
How do you feel it?<br />
When do you do or feel it?</p>
<p>You can obviously expand your &#8216;symptoms&#8217;. What is its shape, size, location? If I&#8217;m to be you for a day. How would I &#8216;do/feel&#8217; it?</p>
<p>Then your round could become something like;</p>
<p>Even though I feel/have this black hole on my upper back. I deeply and completely love, forgive and accept myself.<br />
Even though I only feel/do/react like this when she says&#8230;&#8230;</p>
<p>Job Done</p>

<p>This for me is a simple one. NO!</p>
<p>I really think there are several things newcomers worry about:</p>
<ol>
<li>Will it work for me? YES, if you give it a fair go and do the technique fully and completely, certainly in the beginning.</li>
<li>Am I doing it right? YES</li>
</ol>
<p>First, learn the basics of the set-up phrase <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/how-to/how-to-do-eft-emotional-freedom-technique/" target="_blank">here</a> or check out the <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/videos/" target="_blank">videos</a>.</p>
<p>Secondly, find ways to make EFT tapping a part of your <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/how-to/how-to-do-eft-everyday/" target="_blank">everyday</a> routine. If you miss a day or time – no worries! Chill out.</p>
<p>Thirdly, find set-up phrase endings that you like and ring true to you, <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/eft/10-ways-to-finish-your-eft-set-up-phrase/" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>Once you have done that. What next comes up, is how do I apply it to my situation?</p>
<p>Firstly, forget all of the above!</p>
<p>Grab some paper and a pen. Write out what you think your issue is. Now, you have written your ‘essay’. Which are your emotive sentences? Find them.  Can you shrink the essay down? You want to keep your EFT tapping phrases short and sweet.</p>
<p>If you’re going Event though I feel A,B,C because X,Y,Z. Take each example as it’s own tapping phrase and potential of a breakthrough for you.</p>
<p>For me, there isn’t anything I’ve come across so far that you can&#8217;t fit it a tapping phrase.</p>

<p>Also, pretend you’re writing a letter to your dearest friend, what would you really say?  What do you really say to yourself? If you were that young child again you has all the fantasies, dreams and hopes. You know the one that doesn&#8217;t even tell them to your dearest friend, what would you really be saying?</p>
<p>For me, the bottom line is:</p>
<p>You can only do EFT wrong if you don’t do it! It’s that simple. Give it a real go and tap on everything and anything.  It still amazes me: I&#8217;ll be tapping on A,B and C. They&#8217;ll clear up, but it is X,Y and Z that I notice the really changes within me.</p>

<p>According to the default Emotional Freedom Techniques Manual (<a href="http://www.eftuniverse.com/" target="_blank">here</a>). The default tapping set-up phrase should be:</p>

<p>As I’ve already mentioned, <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/eft/10-ways-to-finish-your-eft-set-up-phrase/" target="_blank">here</a>. I prefer:</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I have this “emotion, limiting decision etc”,I deeply and completely, love, forgive and accept myself.</span></strong></p>

<p>Since those early days, I’ve listened to and read much about EFT and more importantly I’ve applied it to my own life. I firmly believe that to be successful in applying EFT to your own life and those of others that you introduce it to. You must use it. Certainly in the beginning, you must also use it often too. Check out all the videos for examples, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/eftmagic" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>Perhaps my biggest learning I pass on to others is: you can’t do EFT ‘wrong’. In my own opinion, the only way you can do it wrong is not by doing it. I think it is that simple. The other big piece of advice I pass onto others is. Do EFT tapping on anything and everything else that you can find.</p>
<p>Yes, even those things that you don’t think are related to your initial issue, challenge, want etc.</p>
<p>So, I’ve been playing and thinking with the set-up phrase recently. I’ve come to the following conclusion: You could use 1 phrase and one phrase if all else fails.</p>
<p>What is it?</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I believe _____________________. I choose to let this belief go as it no longer serves me.</span></strong></p>
<p>Yes, others may be more effective and quite often are. But, When using EFT to over come your negative emotions, limiting decisions (yes, you can use it for good too!). Are these things not all socially conditioned beliefs?</p>
<p>Who tells you that you’re feeling angry? When did you decide that the X specific mixture of emotions and thoughts etc. = Anger? Did you magically think, mmm. this X is anger? No, you were told what you were thinking and feeling. Your parents, school, media etc. told you what to think and feel based on their own conditioning.</p>
<p>What if you’re trying to achieve a goal or dream. There are many ‘blocks’ : mental, emotional and physical which come up.  Yet, all things being equal these are only beliefs too. i.e.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I believe I can’t afford it. I choose to let this belief go as it no longer serves me.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I believe I’m feeling angry. I choose to let this belief go as it no longer serves me.</span></strong></p>
<p>I sometimes also end the phrase <span style="color: #ff0000;"><span style="color: #000000;">I choose to let this belief go as it no longer</span><strong> supports me.</strong></span></p>
<p>I also use the whole phrase as a reminder phrase as I tap on all the other points, not just as my set-phrase.</p>
<p>Imagine for a moment if everything which stops you or you hold on to and keep you stuck really is just a belief. If you start to let your beliefs go, how many changes large or small will you suddenly begin to notice?</p>
<p>If you take <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/training/why-is-eft-so-successful/" target="_blank">logical levels</a> as a change frame work, look at how pervasive changing a belief can be for you. Changing a belief not only affects your “lower” levels. It also has the potential to affect your own identity.</p>
<p>Remember this, beliefs don’t and wont stick unless they serve you in a positive way.</p>
<p>Give it an EFT go on all and everything. I’d love to hear your own results.</p>

<p>I love language. I love words.  There is something about them which I find deeply satisfying.  I can’t quite put my finger what it is but I love language and vocabulary.  Some people tell me I have a good vocabulary.</p>
<p>This wasn’t always the case!</p>
<p>At school my teachers thought I might be dyslexic.  I had to have extra English lessons at school. I hated reading. I hated being forced to read with my mother, when I was really young. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan even now, yet since I’ve left school I’ve certainly read more books than I did in school.</p>
<p>I much prefer listening to books, be they fiction or non-fiction.  I have always loved being told a story.  If you haven’t check out Stephen Fry reading the Harry Potter series – brilliant.</p>
<p>I still think my vocabulary is pretty limited, but others tell me this isn’t so.</p>
<p>Language is how you and I express our internal emotions verbally to others and the outside world.</p>
<p>But, there’s a problem.</p>
<p>You think you’re feeling X. You say and tap on X and nothing seems to happen.</p>
<p>This is where a dictionary and thesaurus can help you.</p>
<p>Look up the emotion or thing you are tapping on. In how many other ways can it be described?</p>
<p>Dictionary &#8211; <a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/">http://dictionary.reference.com/</a><br />
Thesaurus &#8211; <a href="http://thesaurus.com/" target="_blank">http://thesaurus.com/</a></p>
<p>Itunes &#8211; Wordweb &#8211; <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wordweb-dictionary/id309627313?mt=8" target="_blank">http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wordweb-dictionary/id309627313?mt=8</a></p>
<p>Suppose you’re tapping on the word ‘financial’.  This in itself is very vague. You can’t physically carry financial around with you. Let’s get more specific. What are you thinking or feeling?</p>
<p>Cash, money, budget, debt, economy, sales, profit, notes, pound, dollars, millionaire etc.</p>
<p>All of these words will have a different level of emotional charge for you.  Some words you may not want to even face or tap on.  These you certainly need to tap on!</p>
<p>What if you’re feeling angry?</p>
<p>affronted, annoyed, antagonized, bitter, chafed, choleric, convulsed, cross, displeased, enraged, exacerbated, exasperated, ferocious, fierce, fiery, fuming, furious, galled, hateful, heated, hot, huffy, ill-tempered, impassioned, incensed, indignant, inflamed, infuriated, irascible, irate, ireful, irritable, irritated, maddened, nettled, offended, outraged, piqued, provoked, raging, resentful, riled, sore, splenetic, storming, sulky, sullen, tumultous/tumultuous, turbulent, uptight, vexed, wrathful</p>
<p>You no longer have to be politically correct in your tapping. Tap on what you really think and feel.  You deserve it!</p>
<p>You may feel the urge to tap on all of the words that you can find, or not.  It really is your choice. However, don’t avoid tapping on a word because you feel something and don’t want to go there. This you need to tap on!</p>

<p>So why aren’t you trying it on everything?</p>
<ol>
<li>You can’t get EFT wrong.</li>
<li>EFT always works.</li>
<li>WHAT STOPS YOU FROM DOING EFT?</li>
</ol>
<p>It seems to me that unless you are tapping consistently, certainly when you start EFT, you’re blocking or preventing your own success.  You’re not wanting to succeed in life and with EFT.  It is that simple.</p>
<p>Even in the EFT community we have a procedure called the Personal Peace Procedure.  This is an excellent way to incorporate EFT into your daily life.  I’ve also written how you can do <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/how-to/how-to-do-eft-everyday/" target="_blank">EFT daily</a>.  Yet, most people don’t do it or can’t be bothered.</p>
<p>Some days I tap so much you would think I’m broken!  It is just now I’m really hearing my own language and noticing my feelings.  Any if, buts, maybe, I can’t, I don’t. I’m verging on the instinctive: I hear or notice and just start tapping.</p>
<p>Even though those around me have started noticing and there response is <em>what’s wrong </em>or there is ‘that look’. I respond nothing because nothing is wrong.  I’m still in perfect working order etc. I’ve just noticed another statement or feeling that can be changed or altered with EFT and tapping.</p>
<p>You can can tap on the following:</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I don’t want to do EFT.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I’m afraid to use EFT daily in case I change too much.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I don’t want to, it’s not safe for me to change.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I’m worried how others will react to me when I’ve changed.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I keep thinking is it really OK for me to change.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I don’t know why I don’t do more EFT.</span></strong></p>
<p>I tap walking down the street, on the train, on a plane. Any where and everywhere. Soon you realise that most people aren’t watching you and don’t really care. This suits me fine and dandy. I have no emotional attachment to them or what they think. Whilst I’m walking somewhere and tapping, I’m changing my life. How cool is that?</p>
<p>The more things you tap on, the more you really star to understand that it is you whom controls your results and what goes on in your life.  You also learn where your power points are and what and how best works for you.</p>
<p>With anything which happens in your life, it is your emotional response and your subsequent actions or not, which will determine your results.</p>
<p>I love EFT because you can be tapping on area or topic A and see some relief, but huge chances in a totally different area in your life. As long are doing a ‘full’ round and taking your emotional score, you already know that you are changing…RESULT.</p>

<p>In EFT there are two techniques which you may find very useful the Movie Technique and The Tell The Story Technique.  Whilst these are great and have their place. They are sometimes too stop and start &#8216;ish&#8217; for me.</p>
<p>Often when you&#8217;re having a bad day. You just can&#8217;t or don&#8217;t want to stop and beginning and another technique. You&#8217;re into your emotional, verbal blast.</p>
<p>Maybe you&#8217;ve only just got out of bed and you&#8217;re off. Mentally you&#8217;re already off and arguing in your head with the world and his wife.  One such morning recently, I was having one of these verbal tirade, directed at myself and anything and everything else. As ever I just started tapping. It is such an inbuilt thing for me to do now.</p>
<p>I certainly didn&#8217;t sit there and start tapping on the karate chop point!</p>
<p>Even though&#8230;</p>
<p>I was just tapping on my collar bone point and letting it all come out. Every know and then I would tap on my karate chop point, yet I&#8217;m move back to  my collar bone point.  I was talking away to myself, as memories would come up, I&#8217;d go off on a tangent. I guess I was having something of an emotional brain dump and tapping at the same time. After I&#8217;d repeated several things and gone over many memories, boy did I feel better.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve started to call this the <strong>EFT Rant Technique</strong>.  It is literally:</p>
<p>1. Start either out loud or in your head, your verbal tirade.<br />
2. Tap on a point or points that you are drawn too on your body.<br />
3. Keep going, don&#8217;t censor yourself, is something comes up. Go with it.</p>
<p>It is literally that simple.</p>
<p>I think I kept going for about 20 minutes. After a while, I noticed I was repeating myself, my arguments and discussions.  Then as I went on, there was lots of gaps between my ideas and memories, yet I kept on tapping. After 30 minutes. I felt much, much better and thought, yep I&#8217;m done.</p>
<p>I had got a lot off my chest and tapping on so many emotions, memories etc. All of which now are much less than when I started or are just not resurfacing in my life any more.</p>
<p>Try it, you might like it.  I&#8217;d love to hear about your experiences.</p>

<p>The simple answer is all of them.  The irony being, we don’t know what they are called or how to express them or even what all of them are or if they exist.</p>
<p>Yes, we use EFT mostly to resolve and dissolve our negative emotions. Yet there is nothing stopping you from tapping on your ‘good’ emotions to heighten and remember the experience.</p>
<p>The good and bad emotions are on your own sliding scale.  What is good for you may not be good for me.  Some people love stress because it is a great motivator. Yet in actually fact stress does eventually harm your body.  Whatever you call or label your emotion is brilliant and just for you.</p>
<p>In recent posts I’ve talk about the Personal Peace Procedure (PPP) and why I think EFT is so successful.  There is nothing to stop you from taking the emotions I’m about to detail and doing a (PPP) on all of them. How amazing would that be? – In fact do I hear the word challenge!</p>
<p>For me there are 4 Primary negative emotions -Anger, Fear, Sadness and Guilt.  All other negative emotions feed into one or more of these 4.  There is no right or wrong way to say how they fall into each category. I just think they do.</p>
<p><strong>So Why Not Just Tap On The Primary 4 Emotions?</strong></p>
<p>That is not what you feel.  I remember feeling ugh, I was having a bad day. Only through tapping did I realise I was feeling frustration.  Yet, for me anger is the “keeper” of frustration.  Yet, I wasn’t feeling angry, I was feeling frustrated.</p>

<p>As you can see there are many negative emotions that you could tap away with EFT. Whether you do or don’t is entirely up to you.  You now have a choice to make.</p>
<p>You could take one a day and ask yourself the following questions.  What in my life makes me Impatient? What in my life or who in my life to I blame? What am I blamed for?</p>
<p>Can you begin to imagine how much who will have changed in less than 60 days?</p>

I was surprised at the time of writing that one book wasn’t there. Emotional Freedom Technique for Dummies . Many people seem to be searching for it on Google and it is the only book on EFT in my local library. I hear a new campaign coming on!</p>
<p>So : <strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0470758767/witht-21" target="_blank">Emotional Freedom Technique for Dummies</a></strong> by Helena Fone (4.5 out of 5 stars)</p>
<p>My biggest gripe about the book would be the use of the word Dummies. Yes, I know it is very good marketing and congratulations to Helena for getting the commission. But, I’ll tell you. You, dear reader ain&#8217;t no Dummy!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I have this issue with the word dummy ….</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Even though I don’t like being called a dummy…</span></strong> (they’re for me)</p>
<p>The title aside. This book I think is pretty good. As with all dummy type books. The topic area is easily and well explained with clear and sometimes humorous illustrations.</p>
<p>This books is certainly much easier going that <a href="http://www.eftmagic.com/blog/articles/the-top-7-best-selling-eft-books-on-amazon/" target="_blank">Gary Craig’s manual</a>. Yet, Gary’s manual is a manual and not necessarily meant as an easy to read book.  Two different books for two different audiences I feel.  If you’re from the US, you may not like the Dummies book, since it is writing using UK English and phrases not US English.</p>
<p>The best advice I can give is this: This is an <strong>introduction to EFT</strong> and how EFT tapping can be applied to many different areas and challenges. If you’re coming or new to EFT it is a great start. If you are wanting a particular result and are using EFT tapping as your tool or technique of choice. There probably is a book, CD,DVD etc. that is more tailored to your specific needs.</p>
