What do you suggest I do if I feel like I’m having a Healing Crisis?
As I understand it a healing crisis is when you experience symptoms from diseases and toxins that are released during your detoxification process, i.e when doing EFT. It sounds far more drastic than it is.
Although uncomfortable, it is a great sign that you are changing and letting stuff go on all levels. I’d suggest you keep tapping and do lots of it. Even if you don’t know what to tap on. Just tapping on the points helps.
You can tap on all the points or just the karate chop point or the collar bone point. They seem to be the most powerful for most people. During this time it is really important to drink lots of water. You are literally ‘flushing out’ your system.
I remember the first time I learned how to do a NLP visual squash. I led somebody through the process and they literally changed colour in front of me there and then. That just blew me away. I was also led through the process. The next day we all came into the office feeling ‘sick’. It was the first time I think any of us had done any emotional clearing work. We had all made big emotionally shifts.
I think mentally and emotionally you can literally change in a second, if not quicker. It sometimes take your body time to catch up with what has just happened. After all, you’ve been holding on to X for a long time. Then all of a sudden you let it go, you literally drop it. Your body has lost one of its crutches, that it has held onto for a long time.
Are There Any Side Effects To Doing EFT?

What can go wrong with EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) ? Should I be careful of anything?
The short answer is no.
When you do EFT you are making a choice and decision to use to on yourself The same common sense rule applies to and what you use if for. If you’re helping other people, don’t go where you’re not qualified or have no experience with.
EFT does not replace conventional medicine or other therapies or anything that you want to do and use to help yourself. Yet, for many of us now it is our first port of call.
That is not to say you can’t help somebody else or yourself. You can always preface your helping with…I know this technique, I’m not sure if it will help you for your situation, but why not give it a go. I can teach it to you and you can decide if you want to use it or not.
Once you start using EFT you can become very enthusiastic and evangelical about it, why? It works, pure and simple. Once you’ve had a few champagne moments or gradual change which you can unequivocally can put down to Emotional Freedom Techniques you will use it more and more. This has certainly been my experience and the experience of others that I’ve taught it to.
Some of EFT’s biggest selling point are:
- There is no pain involved.
- You can do it anytime, anywhere and on any thing.
- The results can be long lasting.
There are so many people like you and others from so many different walks of life using EFT, why not use it yourself.
Negative Emotions
You may experience more negative emotions to star with when you begin using EFT. This is because you and your body finally go great, now I can start getting rid of some of this stuff…here you go, deal with this and this and this. Yet, this very quickly subsides.
If you want to work on one of your bigger issues that you know you have, do so as specifically as possible. Pick just one event, time, place or person that represents what you are wanting to clear.
Warning!
The biggest side effect of using EFT consistently is that you will change. Is it the change that you’re afraid of and how others will react? If so, or whatever your reason for not using EFT, you can EFT that!
EFT, Yes Try It On Everything (with a little common sense). Lets just see what happens.
Have you experienced anything negative as a direct result of doing EFT? Why do you think that was?
How Often Should I Practice Tapping?

The short answer is as much as you need to.
The beauty of EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapping is:
- It always works.
- You can never over tap.
- Once you have cleared all your negative stuff you can tap on positive feelings and for what you are thankful for. You don’t have to wait for this, but most of us do.
- You should use it continually since as you change, so does your environment, your results and therefore your emotional responses to events.
When doing tapping and EFT, you initially take your emotional intensity score on a 1-10 basis.
10 – you are carrying around with you. It is like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.
1 – It, whatever your negative emotion is, doesn’t affect you at all.
With Emotional Freedom Techniques, you are always wanting to get your emotional intensity level down to the 2 and 1s. Ideally you want to hit the zeros.
This question often comes up because, you’ll be tapping and nothing seems to be shifting and you’re getting no closer to the 2s and 1s.
Yes, you can keep tapping on the same emotion and eventually it will go down to the 2s and 1s. Why? You be tapping with different triggers in your environment. At the exact point when you are tapping, you are really tuned into what you are feel and just like magic it clears up as you want it to.
If things are not clearing up look closer at how and what you are tapping on.
- Are you doing full and complete rounds of tapping?
- Are you starting off with the set-up phrase and tapping on the karate chop point?
- Are you tuned into your problem and emotion?
- If you are tapping on subsequent rounds are you changing your setup-up phrase to
Even though I have this remaining…
or
Even though I still have this…
Are you really describing what you are feeling? How many more ways could you describe it? Look what you are feeling up in a dictionary or thesaurus.
Change your environment when you tap for this particular issue, there maybe something in your environment which is stopping your from clearing that final piece.
If in doubt, take a break. Do something else. Something that you really enjoy doing. Something that will really take your mind off things. Before you know it you’ll have inspiration to tap on another word, phrase or take some other action all together.
How Often do you tap?
