Quick Ways to Stop Being a Procrastinator

For some of us procrastination only comes once in a while on those larger or more difficult tasks but there are people who face the obstacles of procrastination every time they have a project or task to do. Some of these ways to stop procrastination have been very effective for others so you might want to try them out the next time you find yourself putting off even the smallest of tasks.

Working in a positive or clear headed environment will allow you to be more focused on your task at hand. If you’re in an office, get out, take a lunch break, even opening the window and letting in air can help stimulate yourself into doing something towards what needs to be done.

If the project is complex then you may want to find someone else who has done a similar project for guidance or even ideas. Use them as a sounding board.

Turn off all of the distractions like the TV, social networking sites, cell phones and anything else that causes you to lose focus.

Make a guideline or schedule of your tasks if you are faced with a multi step project or even multiple projects to finish before the end of day.

Work backwards when it comes to the complexity of your task. Instead of putting the harder task last, get it done first so that the biggest battle has been won. Doing this also acts as a great motivator.

Like the Nike slogan said, just do it. Sometimes the best ways to beat procrastination simply involve you actually starting what needs to be done and usually finishing it comes much easier than you thought.

Do not make this more complicated then they need to be. By adding more stress onto yourself you are putting yourself at greater risk for not completing the project at all. Take your time and really understand what your overall goal is with this project. If it is a long term goal or project then you need to continuously realign your goals so that you keep on track.

Thousands of us have to work at putting procrastination behind us and while some are better than others, we are all capable of doing it.

The real treatment for procrastination is within yourself and your ability to really want to get things done. Instead of letting TV, Facebook or even yourself distract the task at hand just put your head down and work. Before you know the project will be completed and you have the rest of your day or night to do whatever you want to do instead.
